Andy’s interest in Pilates work developed in the 1980s as an integral part of his training in American Modern Dance and, following a knee operation in 1994, he began training in Pilates Mat work with Juliet Wynne. Andy first taught Pilates in 1995, to student dancers at the University of Birmingham.

In 2002 he undertook the Foundation Training Programme for Teachers of Pilates (fulltime, one year), at the Oxford School of Pilates (with Jane Paterson) and at the Alan Herdman Studio in London.

In 2003 he opened the Bodyline Pilates Studio. A rapid expansion in his client base and the need to train new teachers led to the construction of the beautiful studio at his home in Barnt Green. In 2006 Andy franchised the Foundation Training Programme and trained 3 teachers including Steff Affleck, with whom he continues to work closely.

In 2007 Andy became resident Pilates teacher at Yogahaven, Birmingham, home of Hot Yoga… and Cool Pilates was born. Former principal ballerina Rachel Parker joined the new Cool Pilates venture in 2008 and together they opened the Jewellery Quarter studio in the former Birmingham Women’s prison.
